Representation Analysis

Axe: When it came to the production and context of this commercial on such a masculine product. Directors approached representation in a very different manner. This commercial used the image of women and dehumanized them as a whole making them seem like complete animals fetching or running towards the man who sprayed the product on themselves. The commercial also emphasized and compared women to animals this as they showed them running carelessly in the wilderness. This commercial builds an inaccurate and unrealistic representation of how women react or show their desire for the other gender. The commercial overexaggerates the character and role of women.

H&M: "Close the loop"

In this commercial, producers decided to incorporate diversity when it came to gender, race, sexualities, religion, and ethnicities. The ad was all about emphasizing the recycling of clothes as H&M does with their company. They marked such a statement by stating and featuring contradictory and odd fashion trends or rules and "allowing them" this would emphasize the idea that fashion has no rules. At the end of the commercial H&M stated that there was only one rule in fashion clothing which was to recycle. When it comes to the representation incorporated in this ad. Diversity was emphasized in great scales, as the produces incorporated minorities being bold in the ad. The purpose of such was for a broad amount of audiences to identify themselves with the ad and follow the one rule. This was hoping to cause unity between all classes, genders, ethnicities, and races by just recycling clothes and giving them to the company.
